KSCL-1321SNOW FLAKE – Kioku no Koshuu -/PULSE is FLOW’s twenty-second single, released on December 10th, 2008. It is the last in a trilogy of three thematically related singles.

The only really good song on this album is SNOW FLAKE – Kioku no Koshuu - (the persistence of memories). It’s a sweet rock ballad with FLOW’s trademark hip-hop/R&B infusion. This song is a lot different from the previous two rock-based singles, WORD OF THE VOICE and WORLD END. Now that they have three great singles, their next album, #5, is going to have to be excellent to live up to them.

PULSE is an average song, but definitely more B-Side material than A-Side. It’s just too aggressive (especially at the beginning) and it drags on a lot. The verses are OK, but I was expecting a lot more from the chorus. I was expecting a nice track in the same style as SNOW FLAKE – Kioku no Koshuu -, but this is more than a disappointment.

Phantom should’ve been the second A-Side, simply because it’s a lot better than PULSE. It’s a catchy song with some hints of the aggressive guitar riffs from the previous track, but controlled. The vocal work isn’t exceptional but it’s effective. It does sound a lot like the two previous singles, which is a good thing, since they were both excellent. I hope this goes onto their upcoming album.

Word of the Voice

Word of the Voice by FLOW! They’ve done LOADS of memorable anime theme songs, their latest ones would be Colors, Opening for Code GEASS: Lelouch of the Rebellion Season 1 as well as Re:member, ending of Naruto anime. I COMPLETELY LOVE THIS SONG. When I first watched the Persona ~Trinity Soul~ 2nd OP, I was so impressed with it. It starts with a mask dropping with the opening beat, then WHAM! The guitars come in jamming. The feel of watching the OP is really amazing- I love the whole feel of the PV. There’s this part where Jun was stuck between two train tracks and each train flying past him in an opposite direction. And at that part the verse was, “Where are we going?” And there’s this transition where there is an arrow marking on the road and then we have Takuro, Megumi and Morimoto covering each part of their faces. The verses were, “I can’t live in this condition/I’m not even here.” Next, we have Shin running on the bridge. The verse where was: “My heart is crumbling, so listen to me sudden cry!” And finally, Shin’s hand seems to be reaching for something. And then the verse was “because we’re together.”

The PV was… DARK. We have the band members being captured or something. 5 of them were being captured and held custody in a jail. And we had all these interrogation process going on and there’s this part where they had to take their photos standing against a wall with the markings of the height and all. And on the other hand we have the band singing and jamming while being tortured at the same time. WHOA. The jail scene was pretty awesome, since they were trying to escape. And then the best thing came in later, where they splashed paint on that jail wall and there was water splashing all about while they were jamming. And then their jamming totally caused their interrogators to pass out due to the “earthquake” and escaped into the sunshine at the end.

I thought the theme fit the song pretty well, but FLOW isn’t very accustomed to do dark PVs, but it’s great. ^^
